The base currency in a forex pair is the first currency listed, as currency trading is conducted in pairs. It serves as the foundation for determining the value of the currency pair and is typically denoted on the left side of the pair.
For example, in the EURUSD pair, the base would be EUR.
In forex trading, a standard lot refers to a trading volume size of 100,000 units of the base currency. It is the standard unit of measurement for forex trading.
Alternatively, there are smaller trading volume sizes available, such as mini-lots, which are equal to 10,000 units of the base currency, and micro-lots, which are equivalent to 1,000 units of the base currency. These smaller lot sizes provide flexibility for traders with varying capital and risk preferences.
